The new prize »Sales Hit of the Year«

Ten organic products have been awarded prizes for their outstanding quality at the Biofach 2005 in Nuremberg.

This time there was an award for confectionary in a brand new category »Sales Hit of the Year«. Here the Biofach trade fair is striking out on new paths with the »biovista« trading company which collects sales data in German organic food shops and organic supermarkets. For the first time ever there were awards for products which not only won over visitors at the trade fair, but also for new products which had proved themselves on the market place for at least nine months and succeeded in establishing themselves with the customers

Top Hit 2004

The decisive factor in determining the »Sales Hit« award was the average market share for the respective goods category (fresh products, dry products and natural cosmetics. This year’s dry product winner in the »New Product of the Year 2004« category is a chocolate bar: »VIVANI Smooth Black Chocolate with 85 % cocoa« made by EcoFinia GmbH. The prize was handed over by the Federal Republic Minister of Agriculture and Consumer Protection, Ms. Renate Künast.

The new chocolate specialities presented by VIVANI at this year’s Biofach 2005 were »superior dark chocolate« and »superior milk chocolate«, both of which are made from the Arriba cocoa bean. The cocoa beans are grown by the small farmers’ co-operatives. They are further processed and roasted at the traditional Weinrich factory. The cocoa beans are grown in their original place of origin, the rain forests of Ecuador. Thanks to the initiative of the GTZ (the »Gesellschaft fü r technische Zusammenarbeit« or »Society for Technical Cooperation«, a state organisation for development aid) the partnership has grown into two cooperatives which produce cocoa, bananas and citrus fruit at the foot of the Cordillera mountain range.
»VIVANI« organic chocolate bars have been on the market for the last five years. All the ingredients - cocoa, milk, sugar and bourbon vanilla - are organically produced.
They contain only top quality cocoa butter, no added fats and no emulsifiers. At the start of 2005 the VIVANI range was awarded several DLG prizes. The new smooth chocolate bars will be available to the general public from the middle of march in organic food shops and health stores
